Valentine's Day & India Adventure

Valentine’s Day was unexpectedly pretty great! It started off with a 14 mile run where I felt like I was on “runners A.D.D.” just randomly turning this way and that around Leichester Square, SoHo, Chinatown & the side streets of London. It was great-I love exploration runs in the city. Then that afternoon I went over to Brittany’s flat to bake cookies with her while Sam had left her on a business trip. It was really homey and nice to have the chance to just chat and catch up with Britt. And she even let me borrow her red sweater to wear to the Swan Lake Ballet we went to at the Royal Opera House that night. It was quite the affair. Although as our professor said we may have gotten “altitude sickness” being so high up in the balcony-it was still amazing. My toes were hurting just looking at what those ballerinas were able to do haha. But seriously-although it may have been a little long I really appreciated it and it was an incredible production.
After the ballet my friend Carly and I went on a walk along the Thames to see the London Eye all lit up red for vday. And naturally we couldn't resist stopping to take some pics outside of it.
Today we went to Southall, which is a large suburban district of west London and basically the Indian district of the city. I really felt like I had gone to India for a few hours. We went to a Krishna temple where we took off our shoes, put on our head scarves and went in a big beautiful room where we watched people come in to pray, pay tithes and worship. It was such a neat experience seeing the diversity and culture that exists just outside of central London. I loved walking around the streets after and taking in the smell of Indian food, looking at all the bright colored jewels and watching girls get henna tattoos.

Then we all went to a big Indian feast after which I absolutely loved. I believe you really get to experience a culture by eating their food. And this was just what I had been wanting-it was family style samples of Indian food from naan, chicken tikka masala, lentils & many other things I don't know the names of but they were delicious and we all walked out pretty full but it was worth every bite! So great last 2 days in London and now we are off to a visit to the Mormon temple temple tomorrow...
