Well I first must admit I was kind of worried yet curious about my 1st Sunday in my new ward here. I got my ward assignment and realized that I would be traveling a far distance-going from tube, train to tram and then my church was going to be from 2-5!! So not too excited about that but I tried to tell myself to be open-minded and that I would go where God wanted me to go...which I guess is the Mitcham Ward!
We arrived late (me & my 2 friends Carly & Geoff who were also assigned to that ward) and then were asked by the bishop to stand up & introduce ourselves & bear our testimonies! I don't really enjoy being put on the spot like that but as I looked out at my new ward-I just saw a bunch of sweet African American people smiling back at me. I felt really comforted and probably the emotions missionaries feel when they come to a new country. So although I felt in the minority, this is kind of like my little "mini mission." Our bishop is from Ghana and seems like a really nice guy. After sacrament he had me & Carly go up to primary where we were greeted by the cutest little black kids with British accents. So I'm going to be a primary teacher for kids 4-7 and it should be a real treat! It's been awhile since I've been in primary but I love teaching the basics of the gospel and these kids are the sweetest-as the pic below shows. So although I may have been hesitant-I think it's going to be really fun and just what I need (funny how God works sometimes.) I'm excited to get to know the ward and the sweet spirits of the members there. They also want me to help out with the young women's choir-but I think once they hear my voice they will think otherwise. Well that is my Sunday so far-tonight we have dinner & a fireside!
so so cute! primary teacher is the best calling ever!
ReplyDeleteHey, I found your blog through Brittany Lentz's blog-- this is Kari Feguson (formerly McClelland from the Los Gatos Ward). Anyway, I lived in London for grad school and got to be in the Peckham Ward. Aren't all the Africans so lovely!? I smiled when you wrote "African Americans" in your post-- it's likely that they're not Americans! ;) Have so much fun!
